UTVS Television, the University Television Station of St. Cloud State University, is an award winning, student run broadcast powerhouse with a legacy of excellence dating back to 1978. Founded under the visionary leadership of Scott Bryce, UTVS has grown from a campus initiative into one of the most respected collegiate television stations in the nation.
Today, UTVS operates out of the historic Stewart Hall and delivers high quality regional programming to St. Cloud and surrounding communities via Spectrum Channels 180, 426, and 823. Viewers can also enjoy UTVS anytime, anywhere thanks to 24/7 On Demand access through dedicated apps on Amazon Fire TV, Android, iOS for iPad & iPhone, Apple TV, and Roku.

Husky Productions
Experience Real Sports Broadcasting at St. Cloud State University Husky Productions is an award winning, student run sports broadcasting team that delivers live coverage of select St. Cloud State athletics on The CW and other regional networks. Recognized nationally as one of the top collegiate production programs, Husky Productions gives students an opportunity to work in a real broadcast environment with professional grade equipment, all while producing content watched across the region.
Television Studios
The St. Cloud State University Television Studio Facility located in Stewart Hall contains two studios, two video control rooms, two audio control rooms, a voiceover suite, editing suites, a master control room, a replay control room, a remote sports production control room, a central equipment server room, an engineering office, a newsroom and an equipment checkout.
Television production equipment used at St. Cloud State University includes Grass Valley LDX 80 Studio Cameras, a Grass Valley Karrera Video Production Center Video Switcher with 2 M/E and 3 M/E Control Surfaces, Wheatstone E4, D8 and D32 Audio Consoles, an RTS ADAM Intercom System, AP ENPS Newswriting Software, Autoscript Teleprompters, Chyron Mosaic Graphics Systems running Chyron Lyric Graphics Software, ScoreBox Graphics Systems, Ross Master Control Systems, an Evertz EQX Video Router, an Evertz EMR Audio Router, Evertz VIP Multiviewers, an Evertz MAGNUM Server, EditShare Shared Storage, Grass Valley K2 Dyno Replay Systems, NewTek TriCasters, NewTek LiveText, NewTek 3Plays, Grass Valley K2 Summit and Transmission servers, RodeCasters, Panasonic UX180 ENG/EFP Cameras, Panasonic DVX200 ENG/EFP Cameras and Canon 80D DLSR Cameras.
UTVS Is A Student Run College Television Station
UTVS-Television is completely student-run. As part of the student organization body at St. Cloud State University, UTVS’s committee is known as the UTVS Executive Board.
The UTVS Executive Board is made up of student staff holding paid positions. Those positions include the following:
Station Manager
Programming Director
News Director
Sports Director
Production Manager
Production Manager
Other students who are part of the Executive Board are Executive Producers and Associate Producers of the different shows produced at UTVS.
The Executive Board meets on a regular basis to discuss and meet the needs of the students at the television station. The meetings are run by the UTVS Station Manager.
History of UTVS Television
UTVS or University Television Station began operations in 1978. Today, the station continues to provide programing to over 33,000 households in the St. Cloud, MN and surrounding areas via Spectrum Channel 180. In 2013, UTVS transitioned from standard definition to high definition to provide a better education experience for our students and a better product to our audience.
UTVS is home to UTVS News, a news broadcast that airs sixteen times a week. Our next biggest production is Husky Productions, a student-run hockey production that broadcasts SCSU DI hockey games out of the university’s hockey arena, the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Be The Broadcaster And Filmmaker
St. Cloud State University invites you to our Be the Broadcaster And Filmmaker event on Friday, November 20th 2026. Be the Broadcaster And Filmmaker is a yearly event hosted by the SCSU Mass Communications Department for high school students interested in broadcast production, journalism and filmmaking.
Be the Broadcaster And Filmmaker offers tours of the on campus Mass Communications Television Studios, a panel discussion with recent graduates working in the media industry and hands-on opportunities for high school students to use and interact with real-world broadcast equipment with students and faculty. If you are interested in a career in Mass Communications, this is the perfect opportunity to visit the SCSU campus and check out SCSU’s award-winning broadcasting program. You will also get to experience the following:
- Hear from SCSU alumni who are current professionals in the field.
- Participate in tours of our state-of-the-art facilities and sound stages.
